Our Mission

To provide farmers and pet owners with affordable medical treatment and individualized advice that will lead to a healthy and prosperous life for their animals.

Clinic History

The Monticello Veterinary Clinic began in 1968 when Dr. John Chittick purchased an existing practice from Dr. Ted Beck. Soon after, Dr. Gilchrist joined the clinic and the two became well-known throughout the Monticello community, with the clinic’s primary focus being production animal medicine.

The two owners constructed the building that currently houses the Monticello Veterinary Clinic in 1972, and Drs. Phil Hanna and Tom Lee joined the staff in 1974 and 1981 respectively.

What Our Clients Say

Thank you to Monticello vet clinic and all their staff. We had to put our Great Dane down yesterday and they were all amazing. I couldn’t recommend any other place. They treated my daughter and I with so much respect and made sure we got our time with her before and after. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the way you all treated us and for making a very hard situation just a little better because of it.

My anti-vet dog got a large ear hematoma that I couldn't keep drained. Prices in Cedar Rapids were outrageous to have it drained. Dr. Duffy did a great job with the surgery. And gave him a vaccine without having him muzzled or us wrestling him around. We will now be switching from the vet we have used for 17 years. Thank you for winning over our dog and making a trip to the vet so much easier.

Whether they're treating one of the farm animals or a family pet, they care for each one of them as if they were their own. They do blood work and analysis when necessary. Because they consult one another, their shared knowledge makes their care even more precise. They're upfront about fees, help us make rational decisions about our animals through kind and supportive insight. Our friends at the front desk are also the face of the business. They're fast, friendly and know when to escalate the issue to the docs. We are so fortunate to have such expertise in Monticello. So much appreciated!!!!
